How does XRP work?
The XRP Ledger uses its own consensus protocol to agree on transaction order and ledger state. Native XRP pays transaction costs and satisfies reserve requirements; validators do not compete through proof-of-work mining, and holding more XRP does not automatically earn consensus staking rewards.
Who created XRP?
David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb and Arthur Britto developed the XRP Ledger before its launch. Ripple's corporate history followed alongside adoption of the asset, so identifying Ripple's executives or a later business product is not the same as identifying the original ledger's creators.

What is XRP used for?
XRP can transfer value on XRPL, cover transaction costs and support account reserves. It can also participate in ledger trading and payment workflows, but other XRPL tokens have their own issuers; using XRP does not guarantee that every cross-border payment service accepts it.
Where can you buy XRP?
Select a service only after its official site confirms XRP purchases, your account eligibility and supported withdrawals. Native XRPL deposits can require a destination tag, so check the complete instructions rather than relying on a ticker listing or this site's exchange comparison routes.
XRP exchange reference guides
Before you buyNo unexpired public-catalogue observation is available in this saved guide. This is not a delisting claim or proof that earlier observations were incorrect. Confirm the exact asset, trading access and withdrawal network through the provider before buying. All exchange checklists remain available at the end of this guide.

How can you buy XRP safely?
Confirm native XRP, the withdrawal network and all destination-tag instructions before buying for self-custody or transfer. Account reserves can reduce the freely spendable balance in a new XRPL account; review that requirement, the provider's full charges and its withdrawal holds before committing funds.
Can you buy a fraction of XRP?
Yes, XRP is divisible into drops, with one million drops equal to one XRP. A platform's order minimum can be larger, and an on-ledger account must satisfy reserves; buying a small fraction does not ensure that the same amount can activate a fresh account.
How much does it cost to buy XRP?
The purchase cost combines order value with any spread, trading and funding charges from the provider. For self-custody, distinguish the withdrawal charge from XRP burned as a transaction fee and XRP retained for account reserves, which is not the same as paying a trading fee.
How much is one XRP worth?
The quoted value of XRP is separate from the XRP Ledger's account reserve. Funding a self-custody account can leave part of its balance reserved rather than freely spendable, and the reserve requirements can change. A recent XRP quote on this page can help estimate market value, but it is not a statement of the usable balance after account requirements, trading charges and any withdrawal cost.
Is XRP a good investment?
XRP has market and custody risks, while large holdings and escrow-related distribution can affect available supply. XRPL functionality does not guarantee payment adoption, liquidity or returns, and this answer makes no blanket claim about its legal status in your jurisdiction. This is not financial advice.

XRP wallets & storage
How do you get an XRP wallet?
Choose wallet software with explicit native XRPL support and follow its official key-backup process. Funding a new on-ledger account requires meeting its reserve, while a hosted exchange balance may use a shared address and tag; these are different account and recovery arrangements.
How can you store XRP securely?
Protect your XRPL secret keys or recovery material and check the wallet's exact hardware integration before relying on offline signing. Custodial access may allow account recovery but leaves withdrawal control with the provider; self-custody avoids that dependence while making key loss your responsibility.
Sending & cashing out XRP
Match your networks
For XRP, copy the exact network names shown in your apps. This compares your entries, not a verified list of supported networks.
Copy the exact network name shown for this asset in each app. No supported-network catalogue is assumed here.
How do you send XRP to another wallet?
Enter the recipient's native XRPL address and any required destination tag, then review amount and XRP fee before signing. Keep the account reserve in mind, and do not substitute a wrapped-XRP network; a missing exchange tag can prevent proper customer credit even when the address is correct.
How long does an XRP transfer take?
A native XRP payment must be successfully included in a validated ledger before its outcome is final. Exchange crediting can take longer because of confirmation policies or tag matching; a pre-broadcast withdrawal hold is separate from XRPL consensus, so check both transaction status and provider records.
How much does it cost to send XRP?
An XRPL transaction destroys the XRP amount specified as its transaction cost, with requirements affected by load and transaction type. Reserves constrain spendable funds but are a separate concept; an exchange may additionally charge its own withdrawal fee rather than passing through only the ledger cost.
Can you cash out XRP for real money?
Cashing out XRP requires a supported sale followed by a fiat payout to an eligible destination. Before depositing to a service, verify native XRPL support and its destination tag; missing that tag can complicate crediting, and trading XRP for a stablecoin does not itself withdraw bank money.
Is XRP traceable?
Native XRP transfers are public ledger activity, not default confidential payments. Addresses and destination tags can expose transaction relationships without directly naming a person; shared service addresses, customer records and publicly disclosed receiving details can provide the additional link to an identity.
Supply, mining & staking
What is the maximum supply of XRP?
The XRP Ledger began with 100 billion XRP, rather than continuously issuing mining rewards. Transaction fees destroy XRP, while escrow releases change availability without creating new coins; maximum original issuance, remaining total supply and circulating supply therefore describe different quantities.
Can you mine XRP?
No, native XRP cannot be mined through proof of work. Its supply was created at the ledger's origin and consensus validators confirm transactions without mining rewards; a website advertising XRP mining is describing another mechanism or a misleading offer, not native XRP issuance.
Can you stake XRP?
XRP does not have native proof-of-stake validator rewards for locking a balance. Products offering XRP yield can involve lending, liquidity pools, custody or another network, so identify the actual mechanism and withdrawal risks instead of treating the advertised return as an XRPL consensus feature.
