CEX.IO Review: Buying, Spot Trading and Withdrawal Holds

You can use CEX.IO for a quoted purchase, a crypto conversion or an order-book trade, but these are different workflows. Choose the interface before comparing costs, then check whether your payment and eventual withdrawal are available. The official guidance reviewed on October 14, 2026 makes availability dependent on your region and account verification.[s1][s3]

Key points

  • You select the purchase asset and payment currency in Instant Buy; its confirmation is not a spot trading fee quote.[s1]
  • You can trade through the Spot Trading terminal instead of accepting an Instant Buy purchase.[s2]
  • You may trade a settled card or PayPal balance while its withdrawal remains temporarily restricted.[s5]
  • You need the destination network and any required memo to match before sending crypto outside CEX.IO.[s6]

Which CEX.IO interface matches your transaction?

Use Instant Buy when you want to specify what you spend or receive and review a purchase confirmation. Use Spot Trading when you want an order book, charts and a choice of order instructions. Convert provides another route for swapping assets in the app or website; do not assume that its conversion rate is the same as an order-book fill.[s1][s2][s8]

What is different about the Spot Trading terminal?

You reach the terminal through Products under For Traders, then choose the pair and buy or sell direction. The getting-started guide describes Market, Limit and Stop Limit instructions. Treat this as an execution decision, not just a different-looking checkout: review your chosen pair and instruction before placing the order.[s2]

If you encounter the older Exchange Plus name, the provider's rebranding notice identifies CEX.IO Spot Trading and trade.cex.io as its replacement branding and destination. It describes wallet-balance trading, subaccounts, charts and a Max Slippage feature. The notice is useful for understanding interface names, but you should not reuse its promotional market fees as your current account rate.[s7]

Which payment routes should you check first?

Check the payment-method guide against your residence and verification status before selecting a route. In the body retrieved on October 14, 2026, ACH is described as US-only, SEPA as a European route, and Faster Payments as UK-only and currently withdrawal-only. These are scoped payment statements, not proof that every resident can open an account.[s3]

The same guide describes PayPal purchases as available only to US customers. A familiar payment logo therefore does not establish that you can use it in your account. For eligible card-wallet payments, the guide describes Visa or Mastercard linked to Google or Apple Wallet, rather than an independent funding rail with universal access.[s3]

How should you compare the actual purchase cost?

Read the final transaction details rather than applying an advertised trading percentage to a card purchase. Instant Buy's predefined packs include the service commission in the displayed purchase amount, and the asset price updates with the market. Compare the payment amount with the crypto you receive at confirmation, not an earlier price on a chart.[s1]

The Limits and Commissions body retrieved for this review exposes verification and provider/country footnotes, but not a complete usable rate table. You therefore have no verified universal card or bank fee here. Check the selected method's current conditions and the withdrawal separately; the available footnotes alone cannot establish your total cost.[s4]

Why might a settled purchase be unavailable to withdraw?

A settled balance is not necessarily a withdrawable balance. CEX.IO's Withdrawal Hold guide says card and PayPal deposits can be credited and available for trading while the deposited amount remains in Temporary Holds. Review the withdrawal-availability date shown during confirmation before using this route for a time-sensitive external payment.[s5]

The guide identifies Settled in transaction history as confirmation of processing, while Total wealth shows Temporary Holds separately. You should check both states instead of treating the settlement label as release of the restriction. It also says initiated purchases are final and non-refundable, so inspect the conditions before confirming.[s5]

What must you prepare for an external crypto transfer?

In the app, use Send from Wallet, select the asset, then Crypto address and the destination. Where multichain support exists, choose the network deliberately and include a required destination tag or memo. A recognisable token name alone does not establish that the receiving wallet accepts the selected chain.[s6]

The withdrawal guide requires two-factor authentication and describes temporary withdrawal restrictions after registration or changing or restoring that authentication method. Check those security conditions before planning an immediate transfer. These account controls do not replace the separate payment-related hold described above.[s6]

When should you stop and resolve eligibility first?

Stop before funding if your residence appears on CEX.IO's unsupported-locations page. The body checked on October 14, 2026 lists exclusions including Canada, India, Japan and Singapore, and separately notes asset restrictions affecting users in the US, China and South Korea. Those examples are not the complete list or approval for other locations.[s9]

You should resolve both the service and the specific asset's permission rather than relying on access to the website. CEX.IO's own notice warns that digital asset markets are volatile and can cause loss. This review is not financial advice and does not verify your account, bank acceptance or any particular investment's suitability.[s9]

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Instant Buy the same as Spot Trading?

No. You accept purchase details in Instant Buy, while Spot Trading lets you submit order instructions for a selected pair. Choose which workflow you need before comparing prices.

Can you withdraw immediately after a card purchase?

Not necessarily. The Withdrawal Hold guide distinguishes trading access from withdrawal access for card and PayPal funding. Check your confirmation's release date and Temporary Holds balance.

Does a listed bank method guarantee access?

No. You must check the method's regional and verification conditions. The payment-method guide does not approve every account or bank in a named region.

Does this review confirm a universal CEX.IO fee?

No. The retrieved commissions body did not expose the full live rate table. Use your current payment, trade and withdrawal previews instead of the old generic percentages.

  • The commissions extraction exposed footnotes but not complete live rate cells.

Observed catalogue assets

This is a dated spot-catalogue check, not a complete supported-coin list or an account eligibility decision. Asset names, product types and regional scope are checked separately from funding or withdrawal access.

No asset-specific spot listing could be confirmed under this check's identity rules. This does not mean CEX.IO lists no cryptocurrencies. Check the exact asset and product directly.
