Astar
(ASTR)

Astar is a smart-contract ecosystem anchored by Astar Network, whose native asset is ASTR. ASTR pays transaction fees and participates in governance and dApp staking. It is not DOT, and a bridged ASTR balance elsewhere should not be confused with native ASTR on Astar.

What is Astar?

Answer sources checked

How does Astar work?

Astar executes smart-contract and native transactions, with ASTR paying network fees. Its dApp staking system allocates protocol issuance to eligible developers and stakers. This is an application-incentive mechanism, not proof-of-work mining; holding ASTR alone does not perform transaction validation or automatically receive staking rewards.

Who created Astar?

Astar identifies Sota Watanabe as its founder. The project's collective description distinguishes the Astar Foundation, Startale and governance bodies as contributors with different responsibilities. This is more precise than attributing every application, token representation or future protocol change to a single founder.

Source 1

What is Astar used for?

ASTR is used for Astar transaction fees, on-chain governance and dApp staking that supports application development. These are protocol functions, not an entitlement to profits from every app. ASTR held on another chain may require bridging before it can perform native Astar staking or fee-payment functions.

Before fees and spread. Rounded display, not network precision or an exchange minimum. This is an estimate, not an exchange order quote.

How can you buy Astar safely?

Confirm the ticker ASTR and the destination network before buying, rather than confusing Astar with DOT or another ecosystem token. Review platform eligibility, the complete order and withdrawal restrictions. If using self-custody, test the exact receiving account and keep some transferable ASTR available for native transaction fees.

Sources 3

Can you buy a fraction of Astar?

Yes. Astar's official token documentation specifies 18 decimal places for ASTR, so the protocol supports fractions of a token. Your service can impose much coarser order precision, purchase minimums or withdrawal minimums. Those commercial limits are separate from ASTR's technical divisibility.

Source 1

Is Astar a good investment?

ASTR has price, application-demand and governance risks, and its issuance policy can dilute unstaked holdings. Tokenomics 3.0 changed emissions and staking incentives, illustrating why historical reward assumptions may fail. dApp participation or an ecosystem partnership does not guarantee a return. This is not financial advice.

Astar wallets & storage

How do you get an Astar wallet?

Use a wallet that explicitly supports the Astar account and transfer route you intend to use, then back up the recovery credentials before receiving ASTR. Check native versus bridged ASTR carefully. Do not assume that a Polkadot-compatible or EVM-compatible wallet automatically supports every Astar staking and transfer operation.

Sources 3

How can you store Astar securely?

Protect the recovery keys for the correct Astar account and review dApp signatures and approvals before accepting them. Keep backup access separate from the device you use daily. A custodial balance depends on the service's controls; a hardware wallet requires verified Astar integration and is not protection against malicious approvals.

How long does an Astar transfer take?

Astar transfer timing depends on transaction inclusion, network finality and the recipient's crediting policy. An exchange withdrawal or cross-chain bridge adds separate processing. dApp-staking unlocks are not ordinary transfers, so a locked ASTR position can require an unlocking process before it becomes spendable.

Sources 2

How much does it cost to send Astar?

Native Astar fees are paid in ASTR and depend on the operation; the token documentation describes fee distribution and burning. A staking call or bridge route need not cost the same as a transfer. Read the current wallet estimate, and separate that network cost from an exchange's withdrawal charge.

Source 1

Is Astar traceable?

Native Astar transfers and governance or staking actions are recorded on a public network. Addresses are not automatically real names, but public activity and exchange records can be connected. Astar's dApp staking mechanism does not make transactions confidential, and bridging does not create a guarantee of anonymity.

Supply, mining & staking

What is the maximum supply of Astar?

Astar's Tokenomics 3.0 describes decaying issuance converging toward approximately 10 billion ASTR over the long term. That is a modelled supply target, not a claim that today's total or circulating supply is 10 billion. It supersedes older uncapped-emission descriptions and remains subject to on-chain governance.

Source 1

Can you mine Astar?

No. ASTR is not produced through Bitcoin-style proof-of-work mining. Astar's economic model allocates issuance to collators, dApp developers, stakers and other protocol destinations. Receiving dApp staking rewards is participation in that incentive system, not evidence that a wallet or app is mining ASTR.

Sources 2

Can you stake Astar?

Yes, Astar provides native dApp staking: you lock ASTR and allocate stake to eligible applications. Tokenomics 3.0 changed the reward model and removed user-facing bonus rewards, so old instructions need checking. Locked funds, claims and unlocking conditions matter, and rewards are neither a fixed APY nor guaranteed profit.
