How does Compound work?
Compound contracts manage borrowing, collateral and interest according to each market's rules. COMP holders and delegates govern changes through proposals and timelocks. Compound III's base-asset lending design differs from simply holding COMP, and deployments on other chains still depend on their host networks.
Who created Compound?
Robert Leshner and Geoffrey Hayes authored Compound's original money-market protocol, as credited in its June 2018 project-hosted whitepaper. The February 2019 version names the same authors. COMP holders and delegates now govern protocol changes, a separate role from creating the original lending design.
What is Compound used for?
COMP is used to delegate votes and participate in governance of Compound markets. Some markets distribute protocol rewards under configured rules, but that is different from interest on supplied assets. What is the maximum supply of Compound?
The official COMP contract defines a total supply of 10 million tokens and 18-decimal accounting. That contract total is different from circulating or available market supply. Reward distribution moves allocated tokens; it should not be confused with an unlimited proof-of-work issuance process.
Can you mine Compound?
No, COMP is not mined through proof of work. It is an issued governance token, and protocol reward distributions follow market configuration. Calling a lending incentive liquidity mining does not mean hardware secures a Compound chain or that owning COMP guarantees rewards.
Can you stake Compound?
COMP vote delegation is not native proof-of-stake consensus staking. Compound distributes configured rewards and pays interest on eligible supplied base assets, which are different activities. A third-party COMP earn or staking product needs separate checks of custody, contract risk and the source of its yield.
