How does Cosmos work?
Cosmos Hub uses CometBFT consensus with validators whose voting weight depends on bonded ATOM, including delegated stake. IBC allows supported chains to exchange verified messages and assets. Connecting through IBC does not merge those chains into one ledger or remove each chain's separate security and token rules.
Who created Cosmos?
The original Cosmos vision was published by Jae Kwon and Ethan Buchman in the project's 2016 whitepaper. Cosmos Hub is now developed and governed through a broader ecosystem. ATOM is the Hub's network coin, not company equity or a claim on every project built with Cosmos technology.
What is Cosmos used for?
ATOM pays for transactions on Cosmos Hub and can be bonded to validators for security and governance participation. It can also move through supported interchain routes, where it may appear as an IBC representation. These uses do not guarantee revenue from all Cosmos chains or automatic rewards merely for holding liquid ATOM.
Where can you buy Cosmos?
Check an eligible platform's official website for current ATOM availability and support for Cosmos Hub deposits and withdrawals. No listing is confirmed here. Verify whether the platform accepts native Hub ATOM or a particular bridged representation, and follow any required memo or other account-crediting instructions exactly.

How to buy Cosmos
Plan your purchaseHow much Cosmos?
How can you buy Cosmos safely?
Verify the platform's official domain, eligibility and Cosmos Hub withdrawal support before buying ATOM. Use a Hub-compatible wallet, check the receiving address and any platform memo, and test the route where practical. Do not disclose recovery words to a purported validator, seller or support representative.
Can you buy a fraction of Cosmos?
Yes, ATOM is divisible into one million uatom per coin, so you can hold less than one ATOM. Platforms may impose larger minimum orders or withdrawal sizes. Keep some ATOM liquid for fees rather than bonding your entire balance and then being unable to submit a transaction.
How much does it cost to buy Cosmos?
There is no universal minimum dollar amount for buying ATOM. Order limits, spread, payment charges and withdrawal fees depend on the platform, while Cosmos Hub transactions also require fees. Native transfers, IBC transfers and unstaking are different actions, so compare costs for the complete route you intend to use.
How much is one Cosmos worth?
ATOM belongs to Cosmos Hub; it is not a single currency shared by every Cosmos SDK or IBC-connected chain. A quote for another chain's token is not a substitute for an ATOM market observation. If this page shows a recent ATOM quote, check its currency and time, then verify the trading provider's destination instructions. An IBC transfer route and a Cosmos Hub deposit address are operational details that the quoted unit value cannot resolve.
Is Cosmos a good investment?
ATOM can lose value, and native staking does not make it a safe investment. Variable issuance, governance changes, validator slashing, unbonding restrictions and custody failures can affect returns or access to funds. This is not financial advice.

Cosmos wallets & storage
How do you get a Cosmos wallet?
Select a wallet that explicitly supports Cosmos Hub and verify that its ATOM account belongs to the Hub, not another Cosmos chain. Protect the wallet's recovery method and check its cosmos1 receiving address. Use official provider instructions for any hardware device rather than importing recovery words into an unsolicited website.
How can you store Cosmos securely?
Secure the keys and recovery words controlling your Cosmos Hub account, and verify transaction details before signing. Native delegation does not require sending your seed phrase to a validator. Staked ATOM can still face slashing, and liquid-staking or tokenized positions should not be treated as identical to an untouched liquid balance.
Sending & cashing out Cosmos
Match your networks
For ATOM, copy the exact network names shown in your apps. This compares your entries, not a verified list of supported networks.
Copy the exact network name shown for this asset in each app. No supported-network catalogue is assumed here.
How do you send Cosmos to another wallet?
Choose a native Cosmos Hub transfer when sending Hub ATOM, verify the cosmos1 recipient address and include any memo required by the receiving platform. Reserve liquid ATOM for fees. An IBC transfer is a separate interchain action, so do not send to another chain by changing only an address prefix.
How long does a Cosmos transfer take?
A Cosmos Hub transfer must be successfully included in the committed chain; a broadcast response alone is not confirmation. Interchain delivery also depends on IBC processing and the participating chains, while exchanges apply their own crediting rules. Check the transaction result and destination rather than relying on a guaranteed arrival time.
How much does it cost to send Cosmos?
Cosmos Hub transactions consume gas and require a fee, normally paid in ATOM through a supported wallet. The required amount depends on the transaction and current network configuration, not only how many ATOM you send. IBC actions and staking operations can have different costs, so use a fresh estimate.
Can you cash out Cosmos for real money?
Confirm that a platform available to you accepts native Cosmos Hub ATOM and provides the fiat payout you need. Follow its current address and memo instructions before sending. Bonded ATOM must become transferable through the applicable unbonding process; an IBC or liquid-staking representation may require a different route.
Is Cosmos traceable?
Cosmos Hub explorers expose public transactions, account activity and validator information, so ordinary ATOM transfers are not inherently anonymous. A memo can add further visible information and should not contain unnecessary sensitive data. IBC movements can also leave records across chains, although ledger addresses alone do not prove a person's identity.
Supply, mining & staking
What is the maximum supply of Cosmos?
Cosmos Hub's documented ATOM model has ongoing, governance-controlled issuance rather than a fixed lifetime coin limit. New ATOM funds block rewards; the mint module's inflation bounds constrain an issuance rate, not a maximum number of coins. The 800 million ceiling discussed on the forum is a proposed change, not an enacted cap established by that thread. Bonding ATOM restricts liquidity without itself creating or destroying the existing coins.
Can you mine Cosmos?
ATOM is not mined through proof-of-work. Cosmos Hub uses proof-of-stake validators, with rewards distributed under protocol rules to validators and delegators. Running an ordinary node does not automatically earn ATOM, and a cloud-mining offer should not be confused with the Hub's native staking mechanism.
Can you stake Cosmos?
Yes, ATOM supports native delegation to Cosmos Hub validators, with rewards affected by protocol issuance, fees and validator commission. Bonded funds are not immediately transferable, and validator misbehavior can lead to slashing of delegated stake. Review current unbonding rules and validator behavior; liquid-staking products add separate contract and token risks.
