Moonbeam
(GLMR)

Moonbeam historically referred to a Polkadot parachain. Its July 2026 announcement describes a GLMR transition to Base, while the September whitepaper presents a pre-launch agent-commerce protocol. The intended Base ERC-20 representation differs from the old native gas coin. Confirm which asset and network a wallet or platform actually supports.

How does Moonbeam work?

Who created Moonbeam?

Moonbeam's historical founder is Derek Yoo, identified by the Moonbeam Foundation's September 2022 dispatch as Moonbeam founder and PureStake CEO. The Foundation publishes the newer protocol whitepaper, while its July 2026 announcement describes the later GLMR transition to Base. Historical founder attribution does not imply that one person authored every component of the new protocol.

What is Moonbeam used for?

The new Moonbeam whitepaper assigns GLMR a role in coverage pools supporting agent-commerce settlement. Those planned protocol functions differ from paying historical parachain gas or delegating to collators. The current site labels the protocol pre-launch, so design descriptions should not be read as proof that every product is live.

Before fees and spread. Rounded display, not network precision or an exchange minimum. This is an estimate, not an exchange order quote.

Can you buy a fraction of Moonbeam?

A token can be purchased in fractions where the platform supports fractional GLMR orders, but its order and withdrawal minimums still apply. Verify the current Base token's precision rather than importing historical parachain settings. An exchange's fractional account balance does not itself prove that the amount is withdrawable.

How much is one Moonbeam worth?

Check which GLMR representation a quote covers. The announced Base transition and pre-launch agent-commerce design do not prove that a seller converted legacy holdings or supports Base withdrawals. Compare the recent market reference with the executable order and all charges; the stated 1:1 conversion ratio is not a fiat price guarantee.

Is Moonbeam a good investment?

GLMR carries transition, contract, liquidity and execution risks because the project announced a change of network and product direction. The announcement gave a July 31, 2026 public migration deadline, now past; late recovery and completed exchange conversions are not established here. Proposed agent-commerce demand is not guaranteed. This is not financial advice.

How long does a Moonbeam transfer take?

A Base GLMR transfer has Base inclusion and settlement stages, while the recipient exchange may impose additional confirmations or reviews. Legacy migration is a separate process and cannot be assigned the same timing. The original announcement's migration deadline is historical, not a guarantee that a claim can now be completed.

How much does it cost to send Moonbeam?

Migrated GLMR transfers pay Base network costs in ETH, combining execution and Ethereum data-publication costs. The amount varies with transaction and network conditions, so use the wallet estimate. Do not use historical Moonbeam-parachain GLMR fees or confuse an exchange's withdrawal charge with Base's network fee.

Supply, mining & staking

What is the maximum supply of Moonbeam?

For the Base GLMR contract named in Moonbeam's migration announcement, supply is fixed at the allocation minted once at deployment. Its matched verified source calls minting only in the constructor and exposes no subsequent mint or upgrade function. That allocation is not the circulating amount, and the old parachain's inflation model does not describe this Base token. Use this contract's totalSupply for its numerical total.

Sources 3

Can you mine Moonbeam?

GLMR on Base is described as an ERC-20 token, not a proof-of-work coin with its own mining process. That proposed representation differs from the historical native parachain asset. A third-party service offering GLMR payouts is not, by that fact, a protocol mining mechanism.
