How does Helium work?
Hotspots provide wireless coverage and network services, with rewards governed by Helium's protocol rules. HNT can be burned to create Data Credits for data usage. Solana records token operations; operating a hotspot is not the same as running Solana consensus or maintaining the old Helium blockchain.
Who created Helium?
Amir Haleem, Shawn Fanning and Sean Carey co-founded Helium. In a firsthand interview, Haleem describes developing the wireless-network idea with Fanning and identifies Carey as a co-founder. This concerns Helium's origins, not the creators of Solana. Helium's HNT documentation separately records the migration to Solana in April 2023, so original Helium blockchain designs are not instructions for current HNT transfers.
What is Helium used for?
HNT supports Helium's wireless economy: hosts and operators receive rewards, and burning HNT produces Data Credits used for network data services. HNT can also be locked for governance-related activity. It is not the gas token for an ordinary Solana transfer, and owning it does not itself provide wireless coverage.

Can you mine Helium?
