NEAR Protocol
(NEAR)

NEAR Protocol is a smart-contract blockchain with a native coin called NEAR. The coin pays transaction costs, supports storage and secures the network through proof-of-stake validation. It is distinct from fungible tokens issued by NEAR applications or wrapped representations on other blockchains.

How does NEAR Protocol work?

NEAR distributes processing and state across shards while validators secure the network through proof of stake. Transactions contain actions and can create receipts that execute later, including across shards. Successful submission is therefore not identical to completion of every action produced by a contract call.

Who created NEAR Protocol?

Illia Polosukhin and Alexander Skidanov founded NEAR Protocol in 2018, according to the project's official history. Their earlier work included NEAR AI, but the blockchain has its own technical development and validator community. A founder's background does not guarantee the coin's value or application safety.

What is NEAR Protocol used for?

NEAR pays for network execution and storage and can be delegated to validators. Applications can also use it for transfers and payments. Storage staking locks balance to support stored data; despite its name, it is distinct from delegating tokens to secure consensus and earn validator rewards.

Where can you buy NEAR Protocol?

Check a platform's official site for native NEAR support, your location eligibility and its withdrawal account format. Some NEAR accounts use readable names while others use implicit addresses. A similarly named token on Ethereum or another chain is not automatically withdrawable as native NEAR.

How much NEAR Protocol?

Waiting for a fresh reference price.

Before fees and spread. Rounded display, not network precision or an exchange minimum. This is an estimate, not an exchange order quote.

Can you buy a fraction of NEAR Protocol?

Yes. One NEAR divides into 10^24 yoctoNEAR, so buying a whole coin is unnecessary. Platform order and withdrawal limits are separate from that protocol precision. Account creation, execution and storage requirements can still make moving an extremely small balance impractical.

Sources 3

How much does it cost to buy NEAR Protocol?

Buying NEAR costs the executed price plus spread and platform or payment charges. Moving it to a wallet can add withdrawal and account-creation costs, while interacting with contracts may require storage deposits. A storage deposit or gas prepayment is not necessarily the final execution fee.

Sources 3

How much is one NEAR Protocol worth?

NEAR is the native token used for gas, storage and staking on NEAR Protocol. In particular, tokens committed to storage requirements are not simply a trading fee that disappears from the balance. A recent market quote, when shown, values NEAR; it does not calculate the usable funds left after account storage and transaction requirements. Check the provider's offered quantity and plan the destination account's needs separately.

NEAR Protocol wallets & storage

How can you store NEAR Protocol securely?

Keep NEAR full-access keys private and inspect the account's active keys and permissions. Restricted function-call keys have narrower powers, but their contract targets and gas allowances still matter. Maintain a tested recovery path and avoid deleting the last controlling key or signing unfamiliar account changes.

For NEAR, copy the exact network names shown in your apps. This compares your entries, not a verified list of supported networks.

How do you send NEAR Protocol to another wallet?

Select native NEAR, confirm the recipient's exact mainnet account identifier and preview the transfer before signing. Keep enough available balance for gas and any applicable account-creation or storage needs. Check the final execution outcome, not only the initial transaction submission, especially for contract-based routes.

Sources 3

How long does a NEAR Protocol transfer take?

NEAR transactions can progress through inclusion, receipt execution and finality; contract calls can generate additional receipts. A receiving platform can wait beyond on-chain completion before crediting funds. Check final execution and recipient status rather than treating a quoted network speed as a guaranteed arrival time.

Source 1

How much does it cost to send NEAR Protocol?

NEAR execution fees use gas units multiplied by the network's gas price, paid in NEAR. Attaching extra gas does not buy faster priority, and unused portions can be refunded under protocol rules. Storage deposits, account-creation charges and platform withdrawal fees are distinct costs.

Sources 2

Is NEAR Protocol traceable?

NEAR account actions and transaction outcomes are recorded on a public network, including receipts generated during execution. Readable account names can make activity easier to recognize rather than private. A service's customer records or disclosed account ownership can connect transactions to a person.

Supply, mining & staking

What is the maximum supply of NEAR Protocol?

NEAR has no fixed maximum supply under its documented validator-reward model. Validator issuance adds coins, while transaction-fee burning removes coins, so net supply depends on both mechanisms. A stated annual reward target is not a hard cap or a guaranteed return for each holder.

Sources 2

Can you mine NEAR Protocol?

No. NEAR uses proof-of-stake validators rather than proof-of-work mining. Holders can delegate to a validator through a staking pool, but buying computing equipment does not create native NEAR mining rewards. A third-party service paying in NEAR is a different economic arrangement.

Sources 2

Can you stake NEAR Protocol?

Yes. NEAR can be delegated through validator staking pools, with rewards affected by pool performance and commission. Unstaking and withdrawing are separate steps with an epoch-based waiting period. Storage staking is not this reward mechanism, and liquid-staking tokens add their own contract and liquidity risks.
