How does Qtum work?
Qtum tracks spendable outputs like a UTXO system while its Account Abstraction Layer enables EVM smart-contract execution. Proof-of-stake participants produce blocks rather than proof-of-work miners. This combination does not make QTUM an Ethereum token or allow every Ethereum wallet to handle native Qtum transfers automatically.
Who created Qtum?
Patrick Dai is identified as a Qtum co-founder in the project's own community update. Qtum is an open-source effort maintained by a broader team and contributors, not a network personally operated by one founder. Its hybrid transaction architecture and subsequent upgrades are separate from individual founder attribution.
What is Qtum used for?
QTUM pays for native transfers and smart-contract execution and participates in Qtum's staking security. Developers can use the EVM alongside its UTXO-based ledger and decentralized parameter governance. QRC20 assets have their own purposes; owning QTUM does not give you rights in every token issued on the network.
Where can you buy Qtum?
Verify QTUM availability directly on a platform's official trading interface for your account and country. Before buying, confirm that withdrawals deliver native Qtum rather than a wrapped asset. The presence of Qtum smart contracts or EVM compatibility is not evidence that an Ethereum withdrawal will reach a Qtum wallet.
Qtum exchange reference guides
Before you buyNo unexpired public-catalogue observation is available in this saved guide. This is not a delisting claim or proof that earlier observations were incorrect. Confirm the exact asset, trading access and withdrawal network through the provider before buying. All exchange checklists remain available at the end of this guide.

How can you buy Qtum safely?
Check the QTUM ticker, native withdrawal network and receiving wallet before funding a purchase. Use wallet links from the official Qtum download page and protect both exchange credentials and backups. A request to transfer all your QTUM to a 'super staker' is not the documented noncustodial offline-delegation workflow.
Can you buy a fraction of Qtum?
Yes, QTUM can be held and transferred in fractional amounts; the protocol's staking documentation also describes fractional block rewards. That is different from a venue's minimum purchase or withdrawal. Check the order form's precision and limits, rather than assuming staking eligibility rules determine how little you can buy.

How much does it cost to buy Qtum?
Your QTUM cost includes the order value plus the provider's spread, trading and funding charges. Native withdrawal fees are separate, and later contract operations require QTUM gas. If you intend to delegate, inspect the delegation transaction and operator's reward fee instead of treating an advertised trading fee as the entire cost.
How much is one Qtum worth?
QTUM's market value changes; consult this page's timestamped dynamic reference panel rather than a frozen price in prose. Check that the quote is for native QTUM, not a QRC20 asset. The platform's order preview can differ because of spread, order size and transaction charges.
Is Qtum a good investment?
QTUM involves market, software and validator risks, plus separate smart-contract or bridge exposure when those products are used. Offline delegation keeps spending control with the owner but does not guarantee rewards or preserve purchasing power. UTXO ancestry is not proof of Bitcoin-equivalent security. This is not financial advice.

Qtum wallets & storage
How do you get a Qtum wallet?
Qtum's official download page offers Core, Qtum Electrum and other native-compatible wallet routes. Core runs a full node, whereas light-wallet tools rely on different infrastructure. Choose the actual QTUM network, follow the publisher's backup instructions and confirm any hardware-wallet integration for your exact software and device.

How can you store Qtum securely?
Keep the backup or key file required by your Qtum wallet offline and private. A web wallet's lack of server-side key storage does not remove the need to secure your device and backup. Offline staking can retain control of spending keys, but signing an unrelated transfer hands control to its recipient.
Sending & cashing out Qtum
Match your networks
For QTUM, copy the exact network names shown in your apps. This compares your entries, not a verified list of supported networks.
Copy the exact network name shown for this asset in each app. No supported-network catalogue is assumed here.
How do you send Qtum to another wallet?
Use a recipient address explicitly intended for native Qtum, select QTUM rather than a QRC20 token and review the fee before signing. Ensure the wallet retains enough QTUM for charges. EVM smart-contract compatibility is not permission to send funds to an arbitrary Ethereum address or unsupported deposit network.
How long does a Qtum transfer take?
A QTUM transfer needs inclusion and the recipient's required confirmations; there is no guaranteed end-to-end time. A platform may hold a withdrawal before producing a transaction ID. Use the Qtum explorer to distinguish a broadcast transaction from an account delay, and check contract execution separately when applicable.

How much does it cost to send Qtum?
Qtum charges native QTUM for transactions, and smart-contract interactions also involve gas. A simple transfer and a contract call can therefore have different costs. Review the wallet estimate and current network parameters; the exchange's withdrawal charge is a separate provider charge rather than a fixed protocol fee.
Can you cash out Qtum for real money?
QTUM can become fiat only through a service supporting its deposit network, a sale and a usable fiat-withdrawal destination for your account. Verify each step directly with the platform. Receiving another crypto asset for QTUM or withdrawing a QRC20 token is not equivalent to receiving bank money.
Is Qtum traceable?
Qtum's public UTXO ledger records transactions and spending relationships. An address is not necessarily a person's real name, but disclosed addresses and custodial records can connect activity to an identity. Offline staking is a delegation arrangement, not a general guarantee of anonymous transfers.
Supply, mining & staking
What is the maximum supply of Qtum?
Qtum Foundation's April 2020 announcement describes a capped supply of about 107.82 million QTUM reached through block rewards. The technical page lists 107,822,406 QTUM, while its September 2025 staking guide explains approximately four-year reward halvings. These are the project's published issuance figures, not a live circulating-supply count or a guarantee that protocol rules can never change.
Can you mine Qtum?
No, native QTUM uses proof of stake rather than hardware proof-of-work mining. Its Bitcoin-derived ledger does not import Bitcoin's mining mechanism. Qtum's staking documentation states that new QTUM enters through staking rewards, so a mining package should not be presented as native QTUM block production.
Can you stake Qtum?
Yes. QTUM supports online staking through a connected Core wallet and offline delegation to a super staker. The documented delegation keeps coin ownership with the delegator, while the operator handles staking and takes its agreed fee. Eligible-output requirements, operator performance and variable rewards differ from a guaranteed savings product.
