Sei
(SEI)

Sei is a layer-one blockchain, and SEI is its native gas and staking asset. Its architecture is evolving toward EVM-only operation through SIP-3. Legacy Cosmos-address instructions and older descriptions of CosmWasm support should therefore not be assumed to describe every currently supported transfer route.

What is Sei?

Sei is a layer-one blockchain, and SEI is its native gas and staking asset. Its architecture is evolving toward EVM-only operation through SIP-3. Legacy Cosmos-address instructions and older descriptions of CosmWasm support should therefore not be assumed to describe every currently supported transfer route.

How does Sei work?

Sei combines validator-based proof-of-stake security with an execution architecture designed for parallel processing. Its Giga program includes separate consensus, execution and storage upgrades, rather than a single permanent performance specification. EVM compatibility does not make SEI an Ethereum ERC-20 token or give it Ethereum settlement.

Who created Sei?

Sei Labs led the network's original development; its official SIP-3 announcement identifies Jay Jog as a co-founder. The chain is also operated by validators and shaped through governance. The technical sources reviewed here do not establish a complete founding-team roster, so no fuller attribution is implied.

Source 1

What is Sei used for?

SEI pays network fees and can be delegated to validators to help secure Sei. It also has governance and application-collateral uses described in the tokenomics materials. These protocol roles do not guarantee that any particular trading application, tokenized asset or yield product will remain available.

Where can you buy Sei?

Check official platform pages for SEI trading and withdrawals in your jurisdiction. During Sei's EVM transition, confirm the exact deposit address format and route rather than relying on an old Cosmos-network listing. This answer does not verify or endorse any specific exchange's current availability.

Sei exchange reference guides

Before you buy

No unexpired public-catalogue observation is available in this saved guide. This is not a delisting claim or proof that earlier observations were incorrect. Confirm the exact asset, trading access and withdrawal network through the provider before buying. All exchange checklists remain available at the end of this guide.

Before fees and spread. Rounded display, not network precision or an exchange minimum. This is an estimate, not an exchange order quote.

How much does it cost to buy Sei?

A SEI purchase can include the order value, spread, trading and payment charges, and a withdrawal fee. Native activity on Sei uses SEI for gas. An EVM wallet on Sei does not normally use Ethereum-mainnet ETH to pay those native network charges.

Source 1

Is Sei a good investment?

SEI exposes holders to market, validator and application risks, as well as operational risks during network upgrades. A wrong legacy address route or unsupported asset migration can make funds inaccessible. The staking documentation says Sei currently does not slash delegators' funds; that does not remove custody, software or withdrawal risks.

Sei wallets & storage

How can you store Sei securely?

Protect the signing keys for the underlying Sei account, not merely one displayed address format. Address association can link EVM and legacy account views, while exposing private keys can compromise funds. Prefer supported signing flows and verify permissions; neither association nor delegation makes a wallet immune to phishing.

How do you send Sei to another wallet?

Send SEI using the recipient's currently accepted Sei route and address, with any platform-required memo. Do not assume that all legacy Cosmos transactions remain available through SIP-3. Review the native gas estimate, test a small amount and verify the transaction before treating a deposit as complete.

Sources 2

How long does a Sei transfer take?

Timing depends on transaction acceptance and the recipient's own crediting rules, not just Sei's advertised finality targets. A legacy migration, bridge route or undelegation introduces additional steps. Check live status and whether the SEI is spendable rather than assuming a delegated balance can be transferred immediately.

Sources 3

How much does it cost to send Sei?

Sei network fees are paid in native SEI, including activity through its EVM environment. The transaction's resource use and current network parameters determine the charge shown by the wallet. Platform withdrawal fees and application trading costs are separate, so compare the complete receive amount.

Source 1

Can you cash out Sei for real money?

Use a platform that currently accepts the specific Sei deposit route and supports your desired cash withdrawal. Confirm its official instructions before sending, especially for legacy address formats. Undelegate funds if necessary and distinguish on-chain arrival, a completed SEI sale and a completed fiat withdrawal.

Sources 3

Is Sei traceable?

Sei's public chain exposes transaction and account activity; it is not a default private-payment network. Its address-association system can connect EVM and legacy addresses to the same underlying account. That linkage can aid attribution even though an address alone does not prove a person's legal identity.

Supply, mining & staking

What is the maximum supply of Sei?

Sei's official tokenomics specify a total allocation of 10 billion SEI, with distribution including ecosystem rewards and vested allocations. Total allocated supply is not the same as circulating or freely tradable supply. Check current releases rather than treating every allocated coin as already available in markets.

Source 1

Can you mine Sei?

No, SEI is not mined using proof-of-work equipment. Sei uses validator staking to secure consensus, and distribution can include staking rewards from allocated reserves. Running a full node or using a trading application does not automatically entitle its operator to newly mined SEI.

Sources 2

Can you stake Sei?

Yes, native SEI can be delegated to validators, subject to commissions and an unbonding process. Sei's staking documentation currently says delegators' funds are not slashed. The SIP-3 program adds EVM-accessible staking functionality, so check current interfaces and exit conditions instead of assuming legacy Cosmos tools remain supported.
