Tezos
(XTZ)

Tezos is an upgradeable smart-contract blockchain, and its native coin is tez, commonly traded under XTZ. Native tez is separate from FA-standard tokens issued by applications. It is used for fees and consensus-related activity, not as a claim on every NFT or financial product on Tezos.

How does Tezos work?

Tezos uses proof-of-stake participants called bakers to propose and attest to blocks. Its on-chain governance process can adopt protocol amendments. Delegating liquid tez and staking locked tez have different mechanics and risk, so neither should be confused with proof-of-work mining.

Who created Tezos?

Tezos's official overview credits Arthur and Kathleen Breitman with creating the project in 2014, followed by crowdfunding and the network's later launch. Today bakers, development teams and governance participants contribute to its operation. That history does not make the founders guarantors of token prices or application safety.

What is Tezos used for?

XTZ pays Tezos transaction fees and supports consensus through baking, delegation or staking. Tezos applications also use smart contracts for NFTs, finance and other services. An application's FA token is not native XTZ, and buying tez does not automatically confer rights in those separately issued assets.

Where can you buy Tezos?

Confirm current XTZ markets and native Tezos withdrawals on the platform's official pages, including your location's restrictions. Do not assume a ticker shown in a comparison table establishes availability. A wrapped or bridged XTZ product also needs separate network and redemption checks.

Can you buy a fraction of Tezos?

Yes, tez is divisible into millionths called mutez, so purchasing one whole XTZ is not required by the protocol. Venues set their own minimum orders and withdrawals. Retain liquid tez for fees even if most of the balance is delegated or staked.

Sources 2

How much does it cost to buy Tezos?

The cost is the XTZ order value plus spread, payment charges, trading fees and any withdrawal charge. On-chain operations use tez for transaction fees, and some storage-related operations have additional costs. Staking a balance does not remove the need for liquid tez to authorize later actions.

Sources 2

Is Tezos a good investment?

XTZ has market risk as well as wallet, application and protocol-governance risks. Staking exposes locked tez to baker penalties, whereas liquid delegation has different exposure and reward mechanics. Neither regular baking rewards nor a history of protocol upgrades establishes a protected principal or a guaranteed return.

Tezos wallets & storage

How can you store Tezos securely?

Protect the keys controlling the Tezos account and verify the destination and operation on a trusted signing device where supported. Liquid delegation does not require transferring ownership to a baker. Actual staking adds lock and penalty considerations, so review the baker and authorization rather than treating both actions as identical.

How do you send Tezos to another wallet?

Send native XTZ to the recipient's exact Tezos account using a supported wallet. Review the amount, network fee and any recipient-specific deposit instructions before signing. An FA-token transfer uses a contract operation and is not interchangeable with sending native tez.

Source 1

How long does a Tezos transfer take?

A Tezos transfer must be included and reach the confirmation state required by the recipient. A custodian may then perform additional crediting checks. Staked tez needs the protocol's unstaking and finalization steps before spending, so a locked balance does not have the same transfer availability as liquid tez.

Sources 2

How much does it cost to send Tezos?

Tezos transaction fees are paid in tez and reflect the operation's resource requirements and current inclusion conditions. Contract interactions and storage allocation differ from a simple tez transfer. Review the wallet's estimate and keep fees separate from baker commissions, exchange charges and any application-specific costs.

Sources 3

Can you cash out Tezos for real money?

Check that a platform currently accepts native XTZ deposits and supports the sale and fiat-withdrawal route you need. Liquid delegated tez and locked staked tez have different spendability. Complete any required unstaking process first, then distinguish network receipt from a completed sale and bank withdrawal.

Source 1

Is Tezos traceable?

Tezos transactions and account activity are publicly inspectable; tez is not a default privacy coin. Delegation, staking and contract operations can be associated with an account's history. Pseudonymous addresses do not prevent an exchange or other counterparty from linking activity with its own identity records.

Supply, mining & staking

What is the maximum supply of Tezos?

Do not treat an old circulating-supply figure as an immutable XTZ ceiling. Tezos rewards bakers and stakers through protocol rules that can evolve through amendments. The reviewed documentation does not establish a fixed maximum supply, so current supply and issuance should be checked against current network data.

Sources 4

Can you mine Tezos?

No, native XTZ is not mined with proof-of-work hardware. Tezos uses bakers and stake-based consensus instead of competitive hashing. Running a baker requires stake and operational participation under current protocol rules; a third-party service calling its offer mining does not change the network's consensus mechanism.

Source 1

Can you stake Tezos?

Yes, Tezos supports native staking, but it differs from delegating liquid tez. Staked tez is temporarily locked and shares exposure to the selected baker's penalties; liquid delegation rewards depend on the baker's distribution policy. Check current acceptance, exit and reward conditions without assuming a fixed yield.
