How does Celo work?
Celo now uses an Ethereum Layer 2 architecture rather than its former standalone Layer 1 consensus model. It supports EVM applications and fee abstraction. CELO can behave as both a native asset and an ERC-20 token on Celo, with the same balance rather than a wrapping conversion.
Who created Celo?
Celo was co-founded by Rene Reinsberg, Marek Olszewski and Sep Kamvar. Its development has involved cLabs and the broader Celo community, including the later Ethereum L2 migration. A founder biography does not establish asset safety, regulatory approval or a financial obligation to CELO holders.

Use a service that currently accepts CELO on your withdrawal network and supports fiat withdrawals for your account. If your CELO is locked for voting or staking, follow its release process first. Selling CELO, transferring it and receiving money in a bank are separate steps.
Is Celo traceable?
Standard CELO transfers use a public EVM ledger, so addresses and transaction activity are inspectable. Celo's mobile and payment focus does not make ordinary transfers anonymous. Identity may also be linked through exchanges, wallet services or recipients even when an address does not display a name.

What is the maximum supply of Celo?
Celo's official 2026 disclosure states a maximum supply of one billion CELO. That maximum is not the current circulating amount: allocations, locked balances and releases matter. Use current chain and disclosure data for circulating supply rather than treating the cap as the number immediately tradable.
Can you mine Celo?
No. CELO is not obtained through proof-of-work mining. Celo is now an Ethereum Layer 2, and old descriptions of its Layer 1 validator arrangement need updating. A third-party service offering CELO payouts for computing work is not native CELO mining.
Can you stake Celo?
Celo still documents locking CELO and voting for groups, with rewards subject to protocol rules. After the L2 migration, its documentation describes these historical validators as community RPC providers, not the L2 block consensus. Check locking, voting and withdrawal terms rather than assuming ordinary L1 proof-of-stake delegation.
