Nano
(XNO)

Nano is a native digital currency designed for transfers without a protocol transaction fee. Its block-lattice ledger gives each account its own chain, with representatives voting on conflicting transactions. It is not an Ethereum token, and representatives do not earn staking rewards for securing it.

How does Nano work?

Nano records a payment using a sender's send block and a recipient's receive block on their respective account chains. Open Representative Voting resolves conflicts using delegated voting weight. A receivable payment can wait until the recipient publishes the receive block; confirmed transactions cannot simply be reversed.

Who created Nano?

Colin LeMahieu began developing Nano in 2014. The Nano Foundation's history identifies him as the project's founder and describes the organization's later support for development. Nano's protocol and open-source contributors are distinct from a custodial service that might hold a user's coins.

What is Nano used for?

Nano's main documented purpose is transferring value without a protocol fee. Its account-chain design supports direct payments, but merchant acceptance and wallet integration must be checked individually. Holding Nano does not produce native staking income or confer ownership in the Nano Foundation.

How much Nano?

Waiting for a fresh reference price.

Before fees and spread. Rounded display, not network precision or an exchange minimum. This is an estimate, not an exchange order quote.

Can you buy a fraction of Nano?

Yes. One nano is divisible into 10^30 raw, the protocol's smallest accounting unit. Trading venues and wallets may expose fewer decimal places and impose order or withdrawal minimums. Protocol precision therefore does not mean a platform will let you buy or withdraw an arbitrarily tiny amount.

Is Nano a good investment?

Nano's fixed distribution and feeless transfers do not guarantee demand, liquidity or a stable price. Its operation depends on representative voting, network resilience and continued software maintenance; a custodian adds separate account risk. It is not an income-generating staking asset. This is not financial advice.

Nano wallets & storage

How do you get a Nano wallet?

Choose a wallet explicitly supporting Nano's account-chain protocol and create an account with securely backed-up recovery material. Check how it handles receivable transfers and representative selection. Receiving and voting functions are protocol-specific, so an Ethereum wallet address is not a substitute for a Nano account.

How long does a Nano transfer take?

Nano confirmation and the recipient's receive block are separate from an exchange's crediting process. A payment may remain receivable until the receiving wallet acts, without expiring merely because it was offline. Network conditions, wallet availability and platform processing prevent a universal delivery-time guarantee.

How much does it cost to send Nano?

Nano charges no protocol transaction fee, so a native Nano payment does not require a separate gas coin. Anti-spam proof of work is computational effort, not a miner payment. Platforms may still levy withdrawal or service charges, which should be distinguished from the feeless ledger.

Sources 2

Is Nano traceable?

Nano's account-chain ledger is public, including balances and linked send and receive activity. An address is not inherently a real-world identity, but payments, address reuse and service records can connect it to one. Feeless transfers and representative voting are not anonymity features.

Supply, mining & staking

What is the maximum supply of Nano?

Nano's faucet distribution ended in October 2017, leaving approximately 133.25 million nano after undistributed funds were burned. There is no ongoing mining issuance. This historical distributed amount is not a live measurement of spendable coins, since further burns and lost keys can reduce availability.

Source 1

Can you mine Nano?

No new Nano can be mined. The small proof-of-work computation associated with transactions is an anti-spam mechanism, not competition for block rewards. Nano's distribution is complete, and running a node or producing that work does not create additional coins.

Sources 2

Can you stake Nano?

Nano has no reward-paying native staking. Holders can delegate voting weight to representatives through Open Representative Voting without locking coins or transferring spending control. Representatives receive no protocol rewards, so a third-party product promising Nano yield is a separate financial arrangement.
