How does ApeCoin work?
APE exists on Ethereum and other supported chains through documented token representations, while native APE pays ApeChain gas. ApeChain is an optimistic Arbitrum Orbit Layer 3 settling on Arbitrum One. This is not an independent proof-of-stake network where holding APE automatically secures consensus.
Who created ApeCoin?
ApeCoin emerged from the BAYC and broader Yuga ecosystem, launching under the ApeCoin DAO framework in March 2022. Its 2026 whitepaper describes the later transfer of operations to ApeCo. These project relationships do not make APE shares in Yuga Labs or confer ownership of BAYC NFTs.
