Flow
(FLOW)

Flow is a proof-of-stake layer-one blockchain with FLOW as its native coin. It supports both Cadence and an EVM environment, which use the same underlying FLOW asset. The environments have different account and transfer mechanics, so an Ethereum-looking address does not make the balance Ethereum-mainnet ETH.

How does Flow work?

Flow separates network tasks across specialized node roles and uses stake-based participation. Cadence is its main execution environment, while Flow EVM operates within that network rather than introducing a new native coin. Wallet and application behavior can differ between the two environments.

Who created Flow?

Flow's official distribution materials identify Dapper Labs as the company that funded development of the technology, alongside the development team and wider ecosystem. Today's network also involves independent operators and community governance. Funding or originating the technology does not imply that Dapper Labs guarantees FLOW's value.

What is Flow used for?

FLOW is used for transaction fees, storage reservations and validator or delegator staking. Applications can use it for payments or collateral, including in Flow EVM. NFTs and separately issued application tokens are different assets, and their ownership or utility cannot be inferred from holding FLOW alone.

Where can you buy Flow?

Verify current FLOW markets and withdrawals on the prospective platform's official pages, including account and jurisdiction restrictions. Confirm the supported Cadence or EVM deposit format. A platform displaying the FLOW ticker does not establish that it accepts every Flow account type or cross-environment transfer.

How can you buy Flow safely?

Identify the supported Flow environment before buying FLOW for withdrawal, and check the recipient's exact address instructions. Never send assets on another chain to a Flow Cadence-Owned Account. Use a small test and verify the wallet's official origin, since similar 0x prefixes can conceal incompatible destinations.

Sources 2

How much does it cost to buy Flow?

A FLOW purchase includes the order value plus any spread, payment charge, trading fee and withdrawal charge. Flow also requires transaction fees and account storage reserves. An application may sponsor a transaction, but that does not establish that all operations or all wallets are permanently free.

Sources 2

Is Flow a good investment?

FLOW has market risk, staking exposure and application or custody risks. Flow's separate Cadence and EVM account formats create an additional wrong-destination hazard, especially for Cadence-Owned Accounts on other chains. Fee-funded rewards can reduce issuance, but neither that mechanism nor sponsorship guarantees investment returns.

How do you send Flow to another wallet?

Select the correct Cadence or Flow EVM transfer route and the recipient's matching address. Moving FLOW between environments needs the supported native bridge flow. Do not send from another network to a Cadence-Owned Account; verify a small transfer and reserve enough spendable FLOW for required costs.

Sources 3

How long does a Flow transfer take?

A FLOW transfer must be executed and reach the state required by the recipient, which can add custodial processing. Cross-environment movement and gateway submission are separate considerations from a simple Cadence transfer. Staked FLOW follows epoch-related exit rules and is not immediately equivalent to a liquid transfer balance.

Sources 2

How much does it cost to send Flow?

Flow transaction charges use FLOW, not Ethereum-mainnet ETH, in both Cadence and Flow EVM. Cadence account storage is a separate balance-reservation requirement, while EVM gateways handle execution-related fees. Review the current wallet estimate and sponsorship conditions rather than treating sponsored transactions as universally free.

Sources 3

Can you cash out Flow for real money?

Verify that the receiving platform accepts your FLOW environment and offers the intended fiat withdrawal route. Use a supported conversion or bridge within Flow if its deposit format differs from your wallet. Release staked funds first when necessary, then track deposit, sale and cash withdrawal separately.

Sources 3

Is Flow traceable?

Flow is a public blockchain, not a private-payment system. Cadence account state, transaction events and EVM activity can provide inspectable records, including links created by cross-environment operations. Multiple account keys or a Cadence-Owned Account do not make the associated activity inherently anonymous.

Supply, mining & staking

What is the maximum supply of Flow?

FLOW began with 1.25 billion coins at genesis, but that is not an immutable maximum supply. Protocol rewards use collected fees first and can mint additional FLOW for a shortfall. Official economics distinguish reduced issuance from fee burning, so do not assume every network fee destroys coins.

Source 1

Can you mine Flow?

No, FLOW is not mined through proof-of-work hashing. The network uses staked node operators and delegators, with specialized roles rather than competitive mining. Running an access or archival service does not automatically qualify it for the same consensus rewards as a participating staked node.

Sources 2

Can you stake Flow?

Yes, Flow supports native node staking and delegation, with epoch-based participation and withdrawal mechanics. Operator fees, eligibility and possible penalties matter, and the available reward depends on network conditions. Check the current staking interface and distinguish native delegation from an application's separate liquid-staking or lending product.
