How does Mantle work?
Mantle executes EVM transactions off Ethereum and uses validity proofs for settlement verification on Ethereum. Its modular design separates execution, proving, settlement, and external data availability, including EigenDA technology. MNT pays Mantle gas, but Ethereum's validators use Ethereum's own consensus mechanism; external data availability also introduces assumptions beyond simply placing every transaction's data on Ethereum.
Who created Mantle?
Mantle was developed by core contributor teams within the BitDAO and Mantle governance ecosystem. Its official governance guidance identifies those teams as the product developers, while tokenomics attributes MNT's initial distribution to the genesis proposals.
