How does zkSync work?
ZKsync Era executes transactions off Ethereum and settles batches using cryptographic validity proofs verified on Ethereum. Its rollup data-availability design publishes compressed state changes and other reconstruction data to Ethereum, while other ZKsync deployments can choose different models. ZK governs protocol decisions; owning it does not itself generate proofs, validate Ethereum, or make an Era transfer private.
Who created zkSync?
Matter Labs is the core development organization behind ZKsync, as identified in its official governance reporting. The protocol's development, the ZK token's distribution, and governance bodies are separate responsibilities rather than the work or property of one interchangeable issuer. The project's first-generation Lite system was later sunset; that historical change does not mean ZK became a replacement token for ETH.
What is zkSync used for?

Use a wallet with documented ZKsync Era support; the official guide explains adding Era mainnet to MetaMask with chain ID 324. Confirm the mainnet network and import the official ZK contract if its balance is not displayed. Era's native currency is ETH, and adding the network neither bridges an Ethereum balance nor restores funds held in the separate legacy Lite system.

How do you send zkSync to another wallet?
Send ZK on the chain the recipient accepts, using the verified token contract and keeping the network's required gas asset available. On Era, ordinary transactions use ETH as the base currency, not ZK. A move to Ethereum uses a supported token bridge and its withdrawal-finalization process; the token address and bridge representation must be checked separately on each chain.

What is the maximum supply of zkSync?
ZK Nation documents a programmed supply cap of 21 billion ZK, while explicitly allowing supply increases through a protocol governance upgrade. It is therefore not an immutable ceiling under every possible governance decision. Capped minters issue some allocations only when needed, so the published cap, tokens actually minted, unlocked allocations, and circulating supply are different quantities.
Can you mine zkSync?
ZK is not mined through proof-of-work block competition. ZKsync uses validity proofs for settlement, while token issuance follows governed allocation and capped-minter mechanisms. Generating a cryptographic proof can require computing resources, but that work is not automatically rewarded with newly mined ZK and should not be confused with Bitcoin mining or with a governance staking campaign.
Can you stake zkSync?
ZK has been staked in a time-limited governance reward pilot. The administrators' May 20, 2026 review says Season 1 ran from February 9 to May 11 and that Season 2 was paused. Participants delegated voting power to active delegates while earning ZK rewards. This documents a historical governance program, not a standing deposit offer, ordinary ETH validator staking, or proof that a decentralized sequencer staking system is live. A later program needs its own launch and exit terms.
